Notes

A 28-second clip of the Pickering/Denbow/Merritt/Smith band recording this song was circulated by William Todd Schultz in October 2015. Pickering was quoted as telling Schultz “We set up in the living room after my birthday party to crank things up to 11. We were working only on cover songs, no originals. Denbow was heavily into Kansas. Without the vocals, the drummer Steve (ES) starts the song. We used my sister’s boom box as a recorder. We thought it totally rocked, and it’s one of my favorite memories.” Based on this it is presumed this version of the song was an instrumental recording. Elliott plays drums on this recording.

CARRY ON, WAYWARD SON. This is from August 3, 1985. As Steve Pickering told me, “We set up in the living room after my birthday party to crank things up to 11. We were working only on cover songs, no originals. Denbow was heavily into Kansas. Without the vocals, the drummer Steve (ES) starts the song. We used my sister’s boom box as a recorder. We thought it totally rocked, and it’s one of my favorite memories.”
